Mid-July Friends

Mixed media on canvas, 24 x 24 in

I have a slight obsession with droopy sunflowers—the way they seem to embody the warmth and fullness of summer. There’s something tender about watching them begin to bow beneath the season, still bright and golden even as they soften and fade.

This piece leans into that feeling through loose, expressive forms and warm, sun-washed color. The flowers aren’t perfectly upright or pristine, but that’s what draws me to them. They feel lived-in—like a small snapshot of a long summer day, when everything is growing freely and nothing needs to be perfect.
